Environmental Ratings Program Helps End-Users Choose Green

Raleigh, NC:   Telecommunication Solutions Group announced today that it has joined the EPEAT Partner Reseller Program, to provide its customers with up-to-date, detailed information on environmentally preferable products, and support for green purchasing decisions. 

EPEAT (www.epeat.net) is the preeminent environmental ratings system for desktops, laptops and monitors, with 33 manufacturers currently registering a total of nearly 1,300 products in the system in the US, with additional registrations worldwide. The EPEAT system rates products as Bronze Silver or Gold based on a multi-attribute standard (IEEE Standard 1680 for the Environmental Assessment of Personal Computer Products) encompassing 51 environmental performance criteria. Telecommunication Solutions Group is a leading IT reseller for the federal government, with $2 million in product sales annually.

EPEAT Reseller Partners provide EPEAT product rating information in their electronic catalogs, train their sales staff to knowledgably support customers’ EPEAT purchasing, and provide customers with EPEAT purchase reporting on request. All of these services meet the requirements of EPEAT’s model purchasing criteria.

All EPEAT registered products must meet 23 mandatory environmental criteria. An additional 28 optional criteria are used to determine whether products earn EPEAT Bronze, Silver, or Gold recognition. Compared to traditional computer equipment, all EPEAT-registered computers have reduced levels of cadmium, lead, and mercury to better protect human health and the environment. They are more energy efficient, which reduces costs and emissions of climate changing greenhouse gases. In addition, manufacturers must offer environmentally responsible recycling options for all EPEAT-registered products.

About EPEAT  The EPEAT (Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool) program evaluates computer desktops, laptops, and monitors based on environmental criteria developed through an extensive stakeholder consensus process supported by US EPA. The EPEAT standard is ANSI approved and was formally adopted in 2006 as Standard 1680 of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE). EPEAT will expand to cover a broad list of electronic products through standards development processes already underway, and each product standard will be revised on a regular basis to maintain stringency  and technological relevance.
